About Me

It all started with a podcast.

My name is Faith and welcome to my about me page. The image above, is me speaking at a women's conference (it was a breakout session, so don't be too impressed).  When I was there, I spoke to the women on circadian rhythms (my favorite topic), sleep, natural flavors, protein intake, etc. It was an amazing experience for me, and it showed me how important voices like mine are in the health industry. I wish I would've heard the things I'm saying now back when I was a young teenager.

Let's back up though and how I was able to start deep diving into those topics I spoke about was...it all started with a podcast. I was listening to a politics podcast and occasionally the podcaster has people on her show to share their new books on other topics. Here comes in Darin Olien, through my bluetooth headphones (yikes :/, I don't use bluetooth headphones any longer) and I was just amazed. I immediately went and ordered his book and devoured it. I started listening to his podcasts and then from there learned of other podcasters with similar thoughts.

So many things have changed in my and my family's life (although sometimes they aren't happy with the changes).
Just to give some examples:
Toothpaste
Floss
Mouthwash
Water
Cutting Boards
Cooking Utensils
Lotions
Air purifiers
Water filters
Headphones
Bedding
Food
Candles
Air fresheners
Cleaning Products
Detergent
Dish Soap
Shampoos/Conditioners
The list can go on and on.

I'm still navigating and saving money for other things I'd like to change but it's a journey. So slowly, one item at a time, I'm switching them to better choices for my family and me. This is not about perfection because that will never be possible. It's about controlling the controllables.

Most people will find it hard to believe the things we are putting in our bodies, putting on our bodies and simply surrounding ourselves with can be that detrimental. I mean, nobody is really talking about it mainstream right? So then if a small group of people are the only ones talking about, can it even be true? Some people will also know intuitively that some of these things must be true. We are the sickest we've ever been as a nation. Even with all our technology and prescriptions and knowledge.

What if the answer is to simply go back to what was? Eating food that your grandma's grandma ate. Being outside more than being inside. Seeing people face to face versus a screen. Following the sun for morning and bedtime routines. Things like this before our modern world as we see it now.

I always say to myself, if I'm right what does this (insert idea) hurt me? If I'm wrong, how serious are the consequences? For example...Even in the manual of apple, it states to keep the iPhone at least 5/8 in away from the body. So again, by using my phone on speakerphone, does that hurt me? Or does having it next to my head hurt me? The first choice doesn't hurt at all if I'm wrong. It's just an inconvenience. The 2nd choice...well it absolutely could hurt me.

I'm also all about helping people see what true health is. If I asked you what a healthy person looks like, an image of muscle dude or the typical Instagram fitness model might have popped in your mind. What if I said true health isn't necessarily even dictated by how your body looks? Is it possible you can be a shredded muscled man and be extremely unhealthy? Absolutely.

Health is more than your weight or how you look. It's about being happy. Do you love yourself? Do you enjoy your life? Are you driven with a purpose? Do you have a good support system? Can your body move? Are you emotionally healthy? Are you giving your body the nutrients and minerals it needs? Are you a nose breather? Do you have good dental hygiene? Are you sleeping well? Health is so much more than just how you simply look. Of course, there is a point where body fat percentage and muscle percentage are important but if you have a healthy ratio of fat and muscle but nothing else that I listed above is in play, then what does that mean? I would venture to say, you aren't healthy. All I'm saying is I want to help change what we view as healthy. It's not as simple as saying I want this body image. That by working on the internal, the external will come.

So welcome to Pretty Hearts Smile!
Where true health starts within.
